Whether it’s stars of stage and screen Judi Dench and Stephen Fry, inspiring heroes Ranulph Fiennes and Steve Redgrave, prestigious writers Jonathan Coe and Sebastian Faulks or family favourites Michael Morpurgo and Lauren Child that get you going, what’s certain is that with 440 events to choose from, there’s plenty to get excited about at The Times Cheltenham Literature Festival 2009.
If you're in town for the first two day meeting of the season on Fri 16th & Sat 17th October here's two items which may be of interest
Appearances at Cheltenham would not be anything unusual for two such prominent racing personalities as Paul Nicholls and Ruby Walsh but to be on stage at the Cheltenham Town Hall on Friday 16th October (under orders at 8.45pm) you have the opportunity to witness both the country‟s most successful National Hunt trainer contemplating his career on the turf and considers his path to the top of the sport. Joining Paul, to discuss his new memoir Lucky Break, will be Ruby Walsh, the Irish Champion Jockey with whom he has shared so many remarkable victories.
This event is part of The Times‟ sponsored Literature Festival 09 and coincides with the Friday of Cheltenham‟s Showcase Meeting. You might just consider the £9 ticket price a real bargain and, if you do, go to

On the same night at the same venue Nicholas Clee on Eclipse
Brilliantly depicting an era of passionate sport and ferocious gambling, Nicholas Clee brings to life Eclipse, the 18th century racehorse and national icon from whom 95% of today’s thoroughbreds are descended. Painting a vivid portrait of the Sport of Kings, he explores one of the greatest racing stories of all time in this beautifully illustrated talk.
