News the pope may have 'overlooked' what happened in the US a few years back

This (as a news item) is an extension of what is happening in Ireland at the moment.

It is incredible Cardinal Brady refuses to resign! Am i the only one who finds it this obscene, and think prison more the place for him?

This is all very wrong, and I don't understand how the church is continued to allow to exist. The only pity is we are a hundred or so years on from when people would revolt and take this thing down themselves.

Its for better penple than me to comment but it we get rid of the church where will the perverts go? There are only so many school janitors in the country.

My goodness - some very strong anti thoughts there, chaps. My own grandfather dumped it early on last century, only to have the priest come raving round to his (non-Catholic) wife saying that when he was dying, oh yes, he'd be wanting the comfort of the last rites. Glad to say he didn't, even though he knew full well he was on the way out for some time.

The revelations coming to light over the last few years have been sickening - the hideous Magdalen Sisters practising not one whit of Christ-like compassion for the confused, outcast unmarried mothers coming to them. The priests enjoying their enslavement as skivvies, washerwomen, what have you, free of charge for measly keep and regular beatings.

And now, not just the USA church paying out millions to its young victims, but horror stories aplenty from Ireland, Austria, Germany, and Italy, where the perverts outdid themselves by not just raping young boys and girls, but going for the grand slam and harming the deaf. As if your life wasn't difficult enough, here's that nice Padre Pasquale showing a very special interest in you...

Yes, it ruled by fear and terror (cue a Monty Pythonesque voice intoning "Fear and terror! Fear and terror and power! Fear and terror and power and control! And don't forget the tithes!") - but clearly not one of the Church-cloistered pervs actually believes in going to the Hell they preach about, neither do they believe in Christ's own teachings of compassion and love. They may hope for forgiveness, but if vengeance belongs to the Lord, then surely its opposite is only His to give, and I assume he won't be too delighted by his representatives on Earth? And as for 'healing'? Do me a favour! Give, give, give, until it hurts, you bastards. A Church which never hesitated to pass the plate round, regardless of the poverty of its congregations, and is now one of the world's wealthiest institutions. Stuff the healing - get your chequebook out.

Christ, with the daily revelations about political corruption, the filthy little wars, everyone's finances down the Swanee, and this, there's no dimension of human existence, it seems, untouched by some disgrace or horror.
