There will be more than one person happy about it, but I'm not. I have a curious problem with the forum. I am able to get in and read everything but when I try to post a reply on a thread or start a new topic (or send a PM) the thing just hangs forever and then times out. This has been the situation for over two days.

I tried Final Furlong as a test and it's the same there so it's obviously something to do with my PC, though I have changed nothing on it.

Everything else is normal - it allows me to bet (which I have done on Hold The Bid and Heez a Dreamer) and perform all the usual functions. It just won't allow me to post on forums!

Could all you knowlegeable people please let me know a solution to this problem.

First things first...

Tools > Internet Options > Delete (Temporary Internet Files, Cookies, History)

Secondly check your security settings:

Tools > Internet Options > Security > Reset all zones to default level (or something similar)

Thirdly depending on the verison of Internet Explorer you are using there may be a reset option here:

Tools > Internet Options > Advanced

Fourthly if you have System Restore activated try rolling back to a date when you know it work:

Start > Run > Type: C:\WINDOWS\system32\Restore\rtsrui.exe

Next...

Run a virus checker and more importantly a spyware removal program: (Google and Download ADAWARE)

If you haven't posted on this thread later I will see what else I can come up with.

Oh and if you are getting desperate then try downloading and installing an alternative browser such as Firefox/Mozilla to determine whether it is an IE or OS problem. Hopefully won't come to this though.

I am posting what Brian has e-mailed me DG. Betsmate, Brian has tried everything you have suggested.

When I ran a system restore - and I did it twice with different dates - the message I got back was that there was no need to estore as no changes had been made!

I downloaded and ran Adaware, even though I already had a spyware removal programme and I came out totally clean. A virus scan found me spotless too.

I downloaded Deepnet as an alternative browser and experienced the same problems as with Internet Explorer.

Up until two days ago everything was fine. I can't blame ntl for this as all other sites work normally.

Couldn't believe the price of Heez A Dreamer - over the last four years McCoy has a 33% strike rate riding for Venetia. I was going to put it up on the forum but....

Very strange. First of all as Gareth says I would try downloading Firefox.

It sounds like a problem with Internet Explorer to me - possibly a Hotfix that Windows Update has installed, but System Restore would normally rollback past this.

Alternatively, you could try downloading the latest version of IE7 from Microsoft.

I would be suprised if it was a connection issue as it sounds like you are able to receive and crucially send data.

Try googling "Invision Power Board", pick a forum that comes up in the results and see if you can use that alright. That will help to narrow it down to a whether it is a domain or code issue.

Finally do a rollback using System Restore anyway - even if it says no changes have been made.

It seems to have put itself right.

I knew I shouldn't have posted that item about the speculation surrounding the CIA's involvement in the Robert Kennedy assassination. If I should suddenly disappear you are all witnesses to the ......................................

As Toyah sang - it's a mystery, though I could insert a juicy adjective in there somewhere.

There I was posting away happily when suddenly the old problem came back. I can get in and read any thread but I am unable to post anything. The same applies on Final Furlong. One minute all was OK, then the next I was a "non-person". Interestingly, on Final Furlong, though I had been on there trying to post when I went back five minutes or so later it said that ny last visit was two days ago.

I have tried all the usual things (as advised last time) but it's as before - when I try to reply, start a new item or or send a PM the whole thing just hangs and eventually times out.

Last time things seemed to put themselves right after a couple of days but I need help - trig is always one source of good advice, is he around?

It's still a total mystery but I've just got back from a visit to where the Olympic Stadium and the Olympic Aquatic Centre are going to be - at present a huge muddy field and a load of shady car repair sheds with no work started - and as if by magic the forum is all working again.
