Mel, the problem is that most of us on the list are spontaneously, brilliantly, originally and uniquely witty and clever. We are not mere comedy turns to be wheeled out to perform for the hoi polloi, like circus ponies. If we bestow our gift of superior humour upon the rabble which constitutes most of this forum, it is because we have so much innate talent, it would be curmudgeonly not to share a little of it with those so tragically without. We are like the rays of the sun, falling onto the dank and dismal little worlds inhabited by lesser termites. Sorry, forumites. We are naturally gratified to have such coruscations recognised, but we are beyond the bourgeois notion of competition.
