The Galway Festival 2016

brilliant today from Ruby Walsh on Clondaw Warrior. I was on him, Modem and Quick Jack and even with half a mile to go and he was so far behind I stopped looking at him, I thought Ruby messed it up badly. Then the amateur on QJ was the one totally missing the signals 3 out and on replay I see RW already in position to attack approaching the final turn. I think thats why he was so happy, for the first time in a long time since I've seen him give such a brilliant ride and he knew it. Perfectly timed.

Luckily i got the exacta up, my faith in Hidden Cyclone almost netting me a tidy sum had he got up.
great ride and a great horse for the hustle and bustle of big fields.
How he got beaten off 53 in Roscommon or someplace is still a mystery.
Great racing there all week to be fair with some wonderful performances all around.
The chat is not all of silage, tillage and con-acre to be fair , though a fair few lads are still eyeing up Tracy Piggot !

Nice advertisement for Galway Plate form with Aleichi Inois and Devils Bride dotting up this afternoon. Clarcam not so good but the trip would have stretched him so probably had a hard enough race on Wednesday

Galway should serve as a warning to Cheltenham not to dilute the festival any further. Friday's card closed with a four runner maiden FFS.

It's just a **** up and effort to fill the coffers of the west. We'll never see the likes of Ansar again. This year's Ansar was Camlann.

Lots of negativity here-I wouldn't be the biggest fan of Galway but in the context of a 7 day holiday meeting it is phenomenal-the County Hurdle winner tried and failed to win the Galway-Road to Riches was placed in Grade 1 chases at the last 2 Cheltenham festivals.Clondaw Warrior is one of the great success stories of the last couple of years.
Anyone backing in every race every day will get wiped out -I watched most of it last week without betting and there was plenty to keep me interested.

It's not my bowl of gravy, but anybody watching Glaway through their purist glasses is bound to be negatively inclined. It is to racing what the Rose of Tralee contest is to beauty pagaents. It's as much about the hinterland as the racing.

That said Horses for courses form is a purist's thing as well as anything else.
Clondaw, Alelchi, Camlann, Beau Satchel were some repeat offenders, DK Weld had his usual batch of maiden race winners.
Andy Slattery was one of the stories of the week.
Seven days is a stretch for sure but the ground staff do as good a job as you will find anywhere and better than most.
