Some of you might remember this when shown originally, but as a tribute to it's writer/presenter who died aged 49 in January, it's repeated on More4 at 12.05am tonight. A 3-part series, the one shown tonight which focuses mostly on racing and his trip to the Cheltenham Festival is excellent viewing.

Well worth the watch. Sad that Rendall died so young, although watching this, you could see he wasn't going to end up pottering around the garden in his retirement.

Watched the first one which was obviously filmed a few years ago in the days you could actually find a public call box and before the days when you could get free commentary if you had a bet. Made me laugh when the guy backed a horse and went in to the call box, rang up for the commentary and then owing to the delayed start and the wait for the result of the photo finish the phone call cost him more than his £10 bet.

Was screened originally in 2000. Has been reshown in tribute to the writer/presenter Jonathan Rendall who died earlier this year at 49. Last nights a good one as well. He's in Australia and thinks he's getting 1.3/1 on Lennox Lewis when he'd actually less than 1/3! Got confused by decimal odds.

Must admit i was laughing when he got mixed up with those odds! Agree with Andy he must be one of the worst gamblers ever although there was something quite endearing and genuine about him

Very likeable i'd love to have given him a few winners and had a drink with him,he looked quite vulnerable i'd imagine he was taken advantage of by many people!!
