Putting aside any progression to come from his opponents, or any other external factor, the question I've asked myself is; can Denman run to a rating of 174?

Whilst he's certainly capable of such a rating on his very best form, I'm far from convinced that he can reach such giddy heights again. Certainly, his last three outings don't give much comfort that he can, and even if he can, he will very likely have to run to a rating in excess of 174 to prevail anyway.

Much as I admire him (and his connections for their fearless campaigning of him), I've never really been 'onside' with Denman - being too deep into the Kauto camp to flatter him too much. But I've looked at his Hennessy chances in a cold-blooded manner, and I cannot see how he can possibly win. How he is 5/1 jolly for this is beyond me.

PS. I'm a bit trousered - is what I've just posted in context?
