A SIGNIFICANT gamble on five Irish raiders all trained by Michael O'Hare and ridden by Andrew Lynch is under way on Wetherby's race card on Thursday evening.
The gamble is reminiscent of the recent Barney Curley-inspired coup that left bookmakers reeling and £2 million out of pocket.
The five runners are:
6.00 (3) Sammy Pat, 3-1 (from 25)
7.05 (5) Willie Martin, 4-1 (from 16)
7.35 (11) Vincent Pipe, 9-4 (from 10)
8.10 (1) Turner Brown, 9-4 (from 11)
8.45 (11) Bale O'Shea, 2-1 (from 8)

Is there some significance to them all being blokes' names? Well, allowing for Bale O'Shea probably being a wee joke on 'bale o'hay'!

not as good as Barney at this is he?

by the looks of the original prices..these must have been run on theri merits big time previously :D

the game riddled with it isn't it?

insider trading - nice if you inside..otherwise..poker might appeal:cool:

It's certanily got worse since the exchanges have been operating. Makes me wonder if there is just a hint of an attempted "coup" the prices tumble and trades make money regardless of whether the horses win or not.

One winner and it went off at 9/2 (cf 2/1 above).

The cynic in me says the bookies manufactured this 'run' of bets to sucker mug lemmings into punting them.

This is done by the ring quite often, not usually with so many horses from the same stable, but bookies do realise that there are lots of punters who slavishly follow the money. When business is slack they all decide to shorten an outsider dramatically, knowing that the lemmings will fall for it!
