The Shergar Cup

I really enjoyed it. OK so you purists are going to slate it whatever. But it aims at a different audience, hopefully a great many newcomers, who will have had a cracking good day with an exciting result. Emma Jayne Wilson needs to be stolen from Canada as her enthusiasm is what is needed over here. Hats off to Sammy Jo - what a great result for her career. I hope a good few trainers sit up and take note that she can berludy well ride!

Me too ! A great show from the girls . . . . . They exhibited genuine enthusiasm & brought great character to the day. Emma Jayne Wilson was a breath of fresh air . . . . just sorry that Cathy Gannon couldn't share their celebration.

As a betting medium it was/is a dead-loss. The course bookies knew their market on the day ( a large segment of the crowd who are newcomers and resultantly clueless about odds). As a consequence the over-rounds were too high and the individual prices too cramped.

Whatever way you dress it up, horseracing is not a team sport. It's about the betting for many of us and in this regard Shergar Cup just doesn't cut the mustard. Thank Christ it's only once a year, imho.

the thing is though..that racing has to provide entertainment..the team thing adds a dimension that purists won't be keen on..but it does appeal to general racegoer

its once a year..it was a good vibe..even through the screen..can't see a problem as its a plus for the game..and we all know there are plenty of negatives.

Exactly!
You need to get new people to come racing and have a good time. A great many people will be put off by the fact that they don't think they know anything about the horses so feel somewhat embarrassed if they get things wrong. This way they can cheer for the jockeys. The betting is immaterial. Show them a happy feel-good family day out and they will hopefully come back.
