OK, here they are (in a probably somewhat contentious format)

How many have you broken !

1. I am the Lord your God who brought you out of slavery in Egypt.

2. You shall have no other gods but me.

3. You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God.

4. You shall remember and keep the Sabbath day holy.

5. Respect your father and mother.

6. You must not kill.

7. You must not commit adultery.

8. You must not steal.

9. You must not give false evidence against your neighbour.

10. You must not be envious of your neighbour's goods. You shall not be envious of his house nor his wife, nor anything that belongs to your neighbour

Hmm, I'm starting to wonder just how many I've kept!

:D :D be a lot on here who also have transgressed Jules............ :o

3. You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God.

1. I am the Lord your God who brought you out of slavery in Egypt.
( but I aint Egyptian i'm Welsh  )

you could mark me up for a large percentage........... h:)

ah, but he does not define it. How are you to know Brian that one of the buisness deals you struck, cars you've driven, women you've courted, items you've purchased did not directly or indirectly cause the death of someone somewhere?

Not in the Catholic church it's not. I've never understood how it can be interpreted as such, either. I've always understood that the first commandment is "I am the Lord thy God, who brought thee out of the land of Egypt and out of the house of bondage. Thou shalt not have strange gods before me."

Second was "Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain."

Then we made up for it by having two where the Protestants had one - we had coveting thy neighbour's wife as a separate one from coveting his goods, ox etc.

Adultery is number six in the Catholic charts but seven in the Protestant and Hebrew lists.

For differences view here:

Commandments - Take Your Pick

It seems to me that there is a fairly serious difference between "honouring your mother and father" and "smiteth(ing)" your mother and father.

What does the original text say re "Thy shalt not kill"?

Technically, we all do it everyday if we're referring to anything living!

However, I know we all presume it means another human being, so that's at least one I've not broken!! & No 5 too. Personally, if I had anything on my neighbour, you wouldn't see me for dust shopping him !

My neighbour's ox I coveteth not. Neither his wife. But my neighbour's husband is, verily, an other story.

Smiteth my ancient Mother have I not, nor ever shall. Shouteth "For Christ's sake, turn that telly down so I can speak to you!" have I abuseth her, even for her own good's sake.

Strange gods did sometime delude me with their promises, aye, Mammon main among them, for surely is he not god of all potential betting coups, actual and busted? Thus hath all this good forum transgresseth, in the temple of St. William of Hill, and piteous was the wailing and gnashing of teeth therefrom.

Spoilsport <_<

True story:

A former colleague of mine told me about his friend who had lapsed from Catholicism as a teenager, but as an older and wiser man wanted to be brought back into the fold. He went to confession:

"Bless me father for I have sinned. It is over 30 years since my last confession...
...
...pause...

...put me down for everything bar murder."
