Elgin is the largest town in the parliamentary constituency of Moray, which returned a Conservative MP in 2017 with a 13.6% swing from the SNP. It also had the highest 'Leave' percentage (49.9%) of all the Scottish constituencies in the EU referendum; and also voted an above average 57.6% 'No' in the Indyref


So no surprise Swinney was given a hard time


The Moray Firth area north of Aberdeen and round to Inverness is a prosperous, leafy, attractive and genteel part of our Septic Isle that I've enjoyed visiting on several occasions: it has as much in common with the conurbations of the Midland Valley as Tyneside has with the Home Counties
