A third girl narrowly escaped being abducted by the gang that killed teenager Mary-Ann Leneghan and left her friend for dead, it has been confirmed.
The news comes as police continue to question a fifth man in connection with the 16-year-old's murder.
According to reports, the three girls were sitting in a car together minutes before the attackers struck and abducted Mary-Ann and her 18-year-old friend.
The third girl - whose name has not been released - was not involved or hurt in the incident and has been helping with inquiries.
A police spokesman said: "She has been spoken to by police and is a witness and no more information regarding her will be released or confirmed."
Examinations are also being carried out on a blue Mercedes car that was pulled out of the River Thames at Reading last night, after being dumped there on Monday.
And forensic teams are scouring a flat above a massage parlour in the hunt for clues to find the killers.
Mary-Ann died from a stab wound to the neck, while her friend, who cannot be named, is in hospital after being shot and stabbed.
Both teenagers, from Reading, Berkshire, were abducted and taken to a hotel where they were sexually and physically assaulted by the men over several hours.

Police have said the young women suffered a "disgusting ordeal" at the hands of up to six attackers in the early hours of Saturday.
They were finally left at a remote spot in Prospect Park in Tilehurst, Reading.
Detective Superintendent Mark Warwick said a suspected arson attack at the 18-year-old survivor's house is "being looked into" to see if it is connected to last weekend's attack.
He refused to comment on reports that the girls had their heads shaved and that they had been forcibly drugged.
The fifth man to be questioned has not been identified but police have said he is in his 20s.
Four others, three arrested in Reading and one in London, have been released on police bail.
Detectives have appealed for information about a maroon or burgundy-coloured four-door saloon car seen in the area at the time the victims were dumped.
Mary-Ann's uncle, Tony Harris, made an emotional appeal for help and said: "This has been very traumatic and a tragic time."
A reward has been offered of £15,000 for any information that leads to the solving of the crime.
Anyone with any information is urged to ring Reading police station on 0845 8505505 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
