At last a day of something approaching proper racing this week. At the moment, I'm managing to restrict my bets, trying to diminish the "Silly bets" that I've seen you refer to, Outsider. It means my outlay remains minimal and that's how I'd like it to stay while so much of the fare is so desperately poor.
My concentration is focussed upon compiling a list of horses I've noted in running in reasonable or good-class events.
Today I am drawn to three in all.
Firstly there are two of note but they come with short prices and doubts attached so I'll be doubling these for a little stake.
Scandinavia - Newmarket 1.50 11/8
Yes, a short price but it's a small field. I do have my reservations on this one so I'll be swerving any single bet since I had him marked as a stayer on his last performance. He's also entered up in the Goodwood Cup (2m) th e Great Voligeur (12f) and the Irish Leger (14f). I can see a dilemma over the best distance; the breeding might suggest he'd not stay 2m yet his last run had him looking like and out - and - out stayer, given his late show. yet here we are over 1m 5f and yet with pieces applied to suggest they'll be on their game. Hmm...
Parole D'oro - Newmarket 5.20 11/4
Certainly this fellow was a noted runner last time out, the mile looks to suit and this is a lesser race for him yet I have an issue with the fact he's a 3yo racing against older horses. 4yo's seem to fare better in this contest and I feel that 11/4 looks too tight. I think Son is an interesting candidate at the price and with a suspicion that he may be well handicapped, I'll risk a small, speculative each-way go.
As I wrote above, they are noted horses and so I'll be having a little win double but I do have my reservations.
If I was to have one bet it would be:
Zayer - 3.00 Newmarket. 14/1 Ew 5 places.
He looks like he's crying out for this 6f now and after his lovely runs the last couple of appearances, he looks good to go for the each-way bet, five places.
Good luck with whatever you do.
