As we approach Royal Ascot, the season is taking shape. All we all hope for, I’m sure, is some consistent ground that will make all the form that much clearer and, of course, the NR toll less of a problem.
Of late, there has been very little to bet on, truth be told, with midweek racing failing to excite me in the slightest. For one who likes staying races in particular, the current trend is to overload fixtures with predominantly contests up to a1m, then some 10f and 12f races with anything above that becoming fewer and fewer in the calendar.
I was perturbed and pleased in almost equal measure on Monday when Squealer was so close to obliging. He’s one that’s improved and I’ll be very interested if he should return to York over 5f on good ground.
Today I’ve taken a shot at:
Lenny’s Spirit – 1.45 Newbury 9/1 Win (Betfair) and waiting for the 4 places to lengthen nearer the off before betting that market.
This fellow took the eye on his penultimate start at Beverley, where he was presented with horses in front wherever he went. That was over 10f and last time they dropped his to 1m, which wouldn’t have suited. Today he’s back at 10f in a race he dead-heated in last year. He’s back today with the same jockey on and I’m looking for a bold show from the gelding.
Last night he stood at 12/1 but by this morning that had shrunk to 7/1 and now we look at 6’s on 365.
Strangely, I looked at my mobile to check out Betfair’s prices and saw him at 10’s. However, when I then switched to my desktop, he was standing on 7’s Heaven knows why there was a difference. Anyway I asked for 10.5’s on my mobile and it was matched, even though it was showing at 7/1 on my computer. Odd.
So, just one for the day. I hope I’m given a decent run.
