Been travelling a bit and now firmly ensconced in deepest Feltham. For anyone who doesn't know it, think of the shittest area near you, multiply by two. You get the idea.
I actually finished phase one of the SEO project for the Las Vegas client on Tuesday night and delivered it on a 6am video call yesterday. Went well.
Anyway, a bit of catch up...
Yesterday...
The old 'Henry Daly youngish runner in a two and a half handicap hurdle' angle came good in no uncertain fashion, the first one (at a price) for some time. Windsor Blue took down the odds-on favorite pretty easily - 20 with the bookies, 30 BF. Took the 30s with a medium sized bet.
And in France...
Winneur, winneur, dinneur de la chickenne at 19.5. Only a small bet, was first run. But the trainer background gave some confidence, and was surprised it was that big.
Made a mistake later, missed the Haslam 20-1 winner, just didn't look closely enough at the race, and it was eminently findable. Then, on the back of that, looked to see what else he had entered, and it was only 2 mins before his next runner at Newcastle. Quick look suggested a definite possible, but not quite enough time to evaluate the others and missed the start. Pissed it, was somewhere in the 10s.
James McHenry looked good for the Kempton mile handicap in the mid-40s, and thought the win was a real possibility a furlong out. Just headed out of 3rd near finish.
And in the Ludlow novice, Mel Rowley's Fanny Moon took the eye as a possible at the elusive 1000-1. Fairly stupidly didn't play the 4 places, and he got the 4th. RP comments: Held up in rear, headway after 4 out, outpaced 3 out, hampered by faller 2 out, kept on, eyecatcher (op 200/1 tchd 300/1)
Also played a little on Emerald Time same race in the mid 30s. Ran well for first time over hurdles, just weakening out of 3rd two out (but still well clear of others) when falling. Looked fairly heavy, though eye was more on Fanny at the time (cue cute turn of phrase/Carry On Up The Chaumi). If the fall doesn't affect confidence, Emerald has it in him to win a race.
The only interesting runner at Happy Valley was Vivacious Win, but not big enough to back for the win, and figured 3 for the place was too small as well. Ran 2nd.
Was pretty confident with All Weather Dave's Paul Midgeley sprinter Hover On The Wind. Took around 10 earlier in the day. Withdrawn, travel problems. Every chance he would have two-lengthed the eventual Mark Usher winner. Will get another day.

Tuesday quick round up...
1.30 Carlisle Jonzac/Takeyoutotheisland Takeyou definitely has something, but hasn't shown it so far. Suspect Kinneston Nick has gone for this race in the hope the good ground has an impact, but 2 miles is likely not far enough. However, the stiff Carlisle track could play a part in making it feel further for a fair few of these. All that said, there look to be only 4 or 5 that you'd say could definitely go well, which might make the 4 places market worth a look. It's possible there might be double figures available, and I may well take the chance if that's the case. Whatever happens here doesn't matter - if it comes off, then OK. if it goes to hell. he'll give it back in a handicap. **Another educational run, though I didn't expect it and went pretty heavy 4 places. It's looking more and more like two and a half will be the marker, will be surprised if Nick doesn't go for it in a handicap next time. The doubts may be around ground. I'd say this was his best run so far, so does he need good? Or will softer ground over further be OK? To be found out.
4.04 C Whispering Dancer A Class 5 3 mile chase and Sue Corbett's Whispering Dancer is down at the foot on 10-2. Ran OK in some 3 mile points in early career, now could be the right time to show more and wouldn't have to be much more than reasonable class 4 level to handle a lot of these. ** This turned out to be a fairly big mistake. Really couldn't take the eye off Whispering at the foot of the handicap, and because of that didn't take enough notice of the Kinneston runner on 12 stone. Well, did consider it, but figured ground not soft enough and 12 stone combined was enough to suggest another day more likely. So, the result: not a bad loss on Whispering, but a mildly annoying miss on Nick's 25-1 winner.
Others were mainly watchers.
So, the day wasn't looking good, when up popped All Weather Dave with an inspired selection - Word Of Mouth - sitting on 18.5. A nice price in the context of the race and medium hammered it. Winner to save the day.

Potential bets today at Huntingdon, Thurles, Doncaster, Lingfield, Southwell. But haven't had time yet to look through, and that might need to be a race by race effort later.
