I've now used this for two months to rid my windowsills of roosting pigeons, loudly cooing cock pigeons at 5.00 a.m., fighting pigeons and, particularly, pooping pigeons. It worked so well that my downstairs neighbour tried it and now uses nothing else. The build-up of potentially dangerous pigeon poo (about four inches deep in places we couldn't swab) is now falling away and not being replaced by fresh splatters. The answer is:

Bold Lavender & Chamomile washing powder!

I don't detest pigeons as some people do, but the amount of daily deposits was getting pretty foul, and I had other things to do with life than swab me sills. I tried pepper, oil, washing-up liquid, a spray animal/bird repellent which lasted until the first drop of rain and a variety of other ideas, including thin strips of plastic flapping from the window handles. Nothing worked because it all disappeared, blew off in the wind, or just sank into the brickwork. The gulls just landed and pecked at the plastic strips. :(

I believe the Bold L&C works where others fail because it smells appalling, and probably upsets birds' sense of direction, which is as much through nasal receptors as it is through eyesight. I originally bought it to use for laundering, but I had to re-wash the clothes because I thought they smelled rank. What to do with a boxful of pongy powder? I thought that as another of many potential anti-poo solutions, I'd spread it fairly thickly along the sills. Since which, NOT ONE PIGEON OR SEAGULL HAS LANDED IN TWO MONTHS! I've just renewed the spread today. They hate the smell and feel of it underfoot.

So, any of you or your friends who are beset by pigeon poo, or who have them invading your flower borders, etc., try spreading Bold (it's entirely harmless to them and to anything else) on the affected places. I never thought I'd be rid of the nuisance, but now it's done humanely and, actually, the slight waft from outside isn't that bad - certainly better than the niff of birdshit!

Have you considered suggesting to Bold, for an appropriate fee , the alternative use of their product.

What a clever woman you are, Krizon! :D

Now here's your way to making your next million..... buy the powder in bulk, repackage and remarket at all seaside resorts with immediate effect. You can do some tests to see if this new magic powder keeps the cats off the garden, the slugs away from the lettuce etc etc. The list of uses could be endless.

I can see you driving that Bentley convertible by the end of September! :)

 Don't tempt me, Kathy! Love the idea, though. In all honesty, it really DOES work. I don't think slugs and snails would like it one bit, either - the little globules of powder would stick to their slimy feet and they'd hate that.

Ive just aquired a racing pigeon - he came waddlin ginto the comnservatory, tired, thirsty and starving hungry. Weve got no idea how long he intends staying for, but as we arent alowed a dog, weve called him Fido and made him a bed.....

I have had several arrive in the yard including one that was so exhausted she stayed, so I got onto the National Racing Pigeon website and tracked her owner through the ring on her leg. He was so pleased I had contacted him as sh ewas the last of an important family he had been breeding for years. SO if yours doesn't go away of its own accord it may be best to do likewise - I got a nice box of chocolates as a thank you.

Fido has gone back outside now - hes sat on teh stable roof basking in the sun, so I think he will be off again soon.Bless him - hope he has a safe trip.

I'll be very honest about the Bold L&C now - Julie, I actually thought it was the DOGS which made the towels smell doggy, but now I know it's the washing powder! Sorry 'bout that (as Songy very sniffily withdraws accommodation privileges for life), but it wasn't until I used it that I realized it was also the same smell my neighbour's house had, and I thought it was her dog and cat! :shy:

There's a hotel in Welly I can stay at...

Seriously, Jules - it's why I use it for the pigeons! Each to their own, but to my nose it does smell like dogshit. I thought the lavender bit would come through, but the overal pong is heavy and cloying...

... I think I'd better stop or I can see the gates of Poleshill being barred forever... :(
