REMINDS me how much old Alan used to post that he is still third ! Aidan seems to be making a charge up the table

It will be weird knocking Alan down a peg posthumously, something I could never manage in life!!

Send Brian for routine dope-testing, please. No-one THAT old can possibly be round the turn and into the straight that far ahead without being on illegal substances, surely...

Brian is the Radcliffe of the forum, and like the saintly Paula seems to be improving with age for no apparent reason.

So did I, DG! I thought there was a bit of a discrepancy in the results vs the Arse Cup!

(But then, I also thought another topic was "Your Favourite Firm" and was just about to put Sainsbury's, when I realized not many people had watched it.)

Actually, laid waste to a bottle of dear old Mateus Rose and most of a gottle of Blossom Hill Zinfandel with a chum LAST night. Yes, yes, I know there'll be screams and howls from the oenophiles on here, but I like the wine equivalent of Easy Listening. I blame Stodge, really. He gave me some Asti Spumante for my birthday, and I suddenly remembered how MUCH I enjoy wines that you just don't have to pontificate over! Trouble is, I can't find anywhere stocking Asti in the two-glass bottles.

I'm not a red wine fan, and I really don't want to have to spend ages with my nose in a glass, deciding whether something's reminding me of tones of leather and charred wildebeeste or not. I jush like to drink theezy stuff nownagain! (Hic!)

 It's been nice knowing you .Blossom Hill Zindandel makes Mateus Rose taste like Chateau Lafite .

Hope the Roederer wasn't too highbrow :P

I don't drink what I don't like, just because wine buffs say I should. I've read loads of books on wine, tried out plenty, and frankly, found that I'm not a huge fan, mostly because it often gives me heartburn. So much white is thin and acidic, and many of the reds heavy and headache-inducing. If I prefer the light, fruity, and unpretentious stuff, so what? I can't stand all the snore-bore prattle - just buy what you like, and DRINK it!

I haven't drunk the Roederer yet, Ards, but having had Krug in the past, I've no wish to repeat that experience - much overrated. My champers of choice, which I do buy now and then, is Perrier-Jouet's Belle Epoque and, no, I don't just buy it for the pretty bottle. It's the softest champers I've had to date, and that includes the ubiquitous Bolly, Taittinger, Veuve Clicquot, Lanson Cordon Rouge, a number of New World offerings made by the champagne method (some very, very acceptable), Heidseck (love their 'Charlie'), and Moet & Chandon's all-purpose, plebeian fizz. I loved Stodge's prez of Asti Spumante because it's so fresh and light, easy to drink a couple of glasses for fun, which is what I like from a drink.

Don't worry that you'll have the Zinfandel pressed upon you when you next visit: between us, the Ancient Briton and I keep some halfway-decent stock of Merlot, Sancerre, Sauvignons, Chablis, Chardonnay, Gewurtztraminer, etc., but if you continue to misbehave, you'll get Lambrusco and darn well like it! (And processed cheese slices, instead of her best Gorgonzola, Camembert, Brie, and Stilton. All of which I hate!)

He just won't give up, will he? Am I ever bloody rude to you about the stuff you drink? No. Or the incredible self-confessed quantity? No. I'm surprised that your palate can tell Jeyes' Fluid from Fleurie with the hammering it gets, duckie.
