Top Three Comedy Acts.

Agree with Merlin, none of the modern so called comedy acts appeal, it may be that we compare with the past ones where we had so much choice but the modern ones for me are just not funny.
Example - Lee Evans, he actually makes me feel uncomfortable.

Ain't it great the way our senses of humour are so different? Derek's named three combos that wouldn't raise a smile for me.

Morecombe & Wise
Two Ronnies
Bremner Bird & Fortune (OK, more satirical than comedic but usually makes me larf!)

Could somebody please translate.

Not entirely sure, but it can usually narrowed down to the following.

1. "Some girls have big tits and like to have sex"
2. "I live in a shit neighbourhood with too many immigrants"
3. "Board Rules should be applied consistantly to every member of the forum including Ardross."
4. "Don't pick on me."

Hope that helps.

Rowan Atkinson(Blackadder)
Leonard Rossiter(Rising Damp/Reginald Perrin)
Geoffrey Palmer(Butterflies/Reg Perrin/As Time Goes By)

DIVER - how are those comedy acts? They're comedy series, and very good, but I think Derek means people wot come onto a stage or perform a comedy routine, rather than star in a long-running series. Don't you, Derek?

Anyway, I rate:

PETER KAY

FRENCH & SAUNDERS (saw them here - wonderful)

VICTORIA WOOD (terrific all-rounder: writer, as well as stand-up and actress)

The number of you going for Peter Kay just goes to show how compiling lists like these is very much dictated by who's the current flavour or who you saw recently.

Nothing wrong with Peter Kay's routine though, pretty good.

The best stand up routines I have seen that consisted simply of a guy on stage teling stories and jokes, were by Eddie Murphy.

MarkEE - we were asked for only THREE - I've gone for homegrown talent, in a bit of flag-waving jingoism. Looking at the Brits mentioned, though, there are plenty of blasts from the past. Morecambe & Wise are well over and done with, but were very clever with their timing - I don't think they wrote any of their own material, though, did they? I like the 'girls' because they're creative writers who can script for themselves. Does Peter Kay? It certainly SOUNDS like he does.

If I ever get the chance to see Bill Bailey live, I'll go - he was pant-peeingly hilarious with his stand-up show shown recentlyish on telly. His take on the BBC's musical intro to the news as 'apocalypse rock' was wonderful. I can't see those swirling orangey-red and black spirals without thinking of it now.
