Paddy Powers odds...what do we make of it? Still think there is a big race in Roman Villa on better ground but not sure he is going to be aimed at this. The very looks very solid.

I backed Heathcote (50/1) in this last year so am hopeful I can do well again in it this time. However, I won't be looking at it until much closer to the time. For a start, the weights aren't out yet and the UK handicapper has a very tight hold on the hurdlers these days.

I expect Barker, for example, to be a good 20lbs higher than his winning mark in Ireland today and the placed horses can expect to go up accordingly.

Jack The Giant has gone up 12lbs for winning the Ladbroke, which will probably snooker him.

I wouldn't touch the market with a barge pole for the time being.

Something else to consider: the handicapper will very likely feel entitled to hike up all the ratings of the Irish entries wherever he can tie lines in with the Pierse principals.
