Some thought-provoking and potentially valuable info here.

My first thoughts are the value is only likely to be realised with deeper trainer-specific analysis (which will take time) and then only in certain circumstances (eg to back up - or negate - a theory you already have around a runner in a particular race. Particularly when you may have a runner you think may outrun its odds, or is going to perform differently than the market suggests at any odds, or indeed is there 'for the future').

Any alternative views?

I think if you have the tech to deal with this kind of stuff then it might give you an edge in some situations but it strikes me as an awful lot of manual effort for relatively little reward.

I often check trainers' records at certain tracks or in certain races if I come across one that I think is handicapped to win, likewise with jockey bookings. If the horse basically doesn't really have a winning chance (or place at long odds) I don't think any stats will make a difference, unless it is a total job whose true ability has been kept well under the radar.

There's also a bit of me says I'd rather lose money following my own judgment than someone else's, no matter how much I respect and trust their judgment and/or connections.

Win or lose myself, I'm always pleased for those people when they win. It's usually well-deserved.

Great points and (near) fully agree.

unless it is a total job whose true ability has been kept well under the radar.

This was what struck me as having potential. As you say - and my own thoughts, too - the effort to do that will (likely) outweigh the benefits, given there are multiple other inputs that are easier to identify.

Still, I can see situations where some knowledge of this can give supplemental signals. I think there are holes in just taking the info as gospel. And you can't anyway, without some fairly extensive study and thought (even with tools, unless I'm missing something).

It's horses that do the running and (imo) their running style would be a much more fruitful avenue to go down.
Trainers know this, and place their charges accordingly.
