Does anyone have trainers whose runners you find difficult to predict?
Charlie Johnstone on the flat and
Jonjo O Neill on the jumps are the 2 that I cannot work out.
Normally following the money is a pointer, but they are stables whose runners I rarely back.
All replies appreciated 👍🏻

Pretty much the same with these two.

Then again, since I only bet in the better Saturday/festival races there's more chance they will be trying.

O'Meara is another.

The game is hard enough as it is without having to try to second-guess whether or not you're on a trier.

What I will say is some trainers seem to me to be more logical than others in the way they "campaign" (aka "plot up") their horses and I tend to focus on those yards in handicaps.

Definitely agree about those two.

I've backed countless horses trained by Sir Mark Prescott in races like the Northumberland Plate, Ebor and Cesarewitch, and have failed to win with any of them. Needless to say I missed Pledgeofallegiance which won last year's Ascot Stakes at 20/1 and hasn't raced since. He's very good at winning races with horses of moderate ability combined with the occasional Group 1.

It is difficult to assess the form of Charles Byrnes's horses though he is due a winner. I'll keep an eye on Redcliff Glen - 4:40 tomorrow at Kilbeggan.

Sir Mark's assistant is a local lad -I have never once heard a whisper from the yard.I'd say he runs a very tight ship.

Of Mark Johnston If I was backing one of his I used to say I was taking a spin on the Johnston roulette wheel and I'd think his son is going in a similar way.

Can't say as I've suffered the same sort of randomness with any other trainer.

I don't think Charlie Johnson can predict how his horses are going to run. Never been able to work out the Easterby's and by all accounts Beckett staff very tight lipped.

It's more a case of who you can rely on now and it's usually the bigger trainers. Generally run to market expectations or the market can guide. There's seriously hooky trainers out there now.
