This excellent programme presented by Bruce Parry is back on BBC2 tonight [now]. The first series was brilliant and I'm glad that another series has been comissioned.

For anyone who hasn't seen it in the past I would strongly recommend watching.

One of the most worthwhile explorer programmes I've seen for some time - Parry gets right in with the tribes he wants to experience. Bit of a Dead-eye Dick, too, with one quick spear thrust to kill the ceremonial cow tonight. Good sense of humour all the time, too - loved it when he noted he was waltzing around with the warriors 'dressed like someone out of the Bible' while they loped around in tee-shirts and shorts! Good straightforward stuff, thankfully Western judgment-free while shining a light into a tiny area of the African world unmentioned by the Press, for all of its tribal killings, and the reasons behind them (pressure on shrinking water reserves, etc.). I'm so looking forward to the rest of the series.

  If Spiderman had been played by a male who at least looked out of puberty, I might've watched it, too! Tobey's well worth watching, but Parry won out in the Manly Bloke Dept. by a distance. :)

Did anyone see last night's episode of Tribe? I thought it was one of the best one yet, it was superb.

I was sorry to hear that there are only 3 episodes in this run though.

Marvellous, Shadz, wasn't it? I loved the Hamar - what's come through the series strongly is the sense of African humour (very similar to our own mickey-taking), hospitality, and openness. The Hamar girls were very beautiful - I thought Kyrah was definitely flirting with our hero, and that perhaps a little reciprocity would've been possible if she hadn't a babe at breast and a husband with a long spear! Love Parry's go-for-the-gusto approach to everything. No way does he just sit back and pontificate to camera. The cattle-jumping ceremony looks like a bovine version of an Evil Knievel stunt! Wonderful programmes. I wonder if we can pester the production company to keep Parry going full-time for our delight?

....at least it was the best programme on TV until the subject of female circumcision came up. Cue legs crossed, cringing, tears to the eyes, an overwhelming desire to turn over......

Seriously though, a superb programme. Although I've already had the piss taken out of me for saying so ( ) I think it says a lot for human nature without the taint of modern/western life that all the tribes featured have been so eager and willing to accomodate Bruce Parry, moreover to call him their son, extend him the affection of family and want him to stay with them.

Parry's got more to the heart of what all of these people's lives are really like to live, than many others. It says a huge amount about the warmth, patience and kindness of the tribes and Parry's character in passing the 'stranger test' that we can enjoy these documentaries. Not sure about warmth with his next exploit, though - looks like he's going all Antarctic! Brrrrr...

More 'Tribe' anon - I hope Parry's still in it.

Ray Mears - what a guy, he's taught me what to do if I ever get lost in Colorado, have no food and there's a big black bear after me.

Bruce Parry's latest series, Blizzard, is about to start on BBC2. It looks worth watching - it's a recreation of Scott & Amundsen's race to the South Pole, albeit staged in Greenland rather than Antartica.

I decided I preferred seeing him with far less clothing on, and watched 'Poirot' instead, for pretty views of Rhodes and chaps in their full-body swimming cozzies. I'll catch up with Parry next week, the only thing a bit dispiriting is that we know the outcome of the original!
