Can anyone help with this trojan that seems to have infected my pc.

My wife brought some files home from work on a flashdrive that seemed to be carrying whatever has infected us (other work colleagues have had this problem).

Now, AVG (which I only installed after the problem had arisen) keeps coming up with 'threat detected' with the details...file name : C:\Users\Mark|AppData|Local|Temp|Ywz.exe
Threat Name: Trojan Horse Generic 16.ABQW

Also, I keep getting the 'internet explorer has stopped working' message, but it doesn't. Yet, when you click the okay on this message, a new window of IE reopens with 'javascript somethingorother' in the address line.

A few other programs don't work properly as well...Adobe Photoshop opens then immediately stops working with the error message as per IE.

I'm running Windows Shitbag,....I mean Vista.

any clues techies?

Try googling the name of the trojan and see what that pulls up?
(Not coming from a position of power and superiority btw, my desktop is sporting a virus bigger then a carbuncle and is giving me the sad blue screen. I am typing on a laptop older then me!)

Gearoil - But is there not an easier way?!?!

TF - I have googled it and it doesn't really give any specific info for that trojan.

Stay off line until you've fixed this.
Staying off-line is important: it'll limit the chance of the trojan a) spreading & b) doing damage to your personal info out there. Quite possibly too late now, though, but you may as well.

Get an anti-virus product on a CD from somewhere & try that. If you run out of options going that way, use another, uninfected PC to get the stuff listed below, put it on a CD & copy to your own infected PC.

Try various anti-virus (& maybe anti-spyware packages, later.)
Use them one by one until your PC is clean.
If one doesn't do the job, un-install it before installing the next one.

For anti-virus, here's a list of possibles. The ones with an * are my preference & that's no guarantee they're up to the job.
AVG*
f-prot*
Avast
Avira
Kaspersky
McAfee
Panda
PC-Tools
Sophos*
Symantec
ZoneAlarm

If the trojan is also detected in a 'system restore' area, ensure you don't restore from there in future -- maybe turn off that option to delete the system restore point & turn it back on later.

Good luck.

Thanks for your help. I think I've managed to remove it using a combo of malwarebytes, spyboy S&D, AVG and threatfire. Everything seems fine for now....
