Fair play to ITV yesterday. They played their part in making a wonderful day's racing wonderful.

Mrs O mentioned as she distracted me from the form for a moment around lunchtime that she'd seen on the News that a blind man had a horse in a big race. I explained that the horse was favourite, was a certainty and that it would make a brilliant news story. When I told her it had won she rushed to watch the aftermath of the race on TV. In nearly 40 years of wedded bliss (for every man in the world bar me) that's a first.

It was that kind of day.
