I took delivery the other day of a new Panasonic 32" LCD TV and would like to wall-mount it.

Do I need to use the recommended Panasonic bracket (and if so where do I source one as they seem scarce) or do any of the big DIY stores sell brackets that can be used for different makes of TV?

Look at the sellers feedback rating in the top corner. Obviously the more positive the better. Read other people experiences of the seller. Power sellers are usually safe.

Make sure you note the P&P costs carefully before you bid. A lot of sellers set these artificially high to guarantee a minimum price. I have no problem with this, just make sure you take it into account.

Buy It Now items takes the hassle out of having to win an auction.

Actually, the main reason they do it because the amount you have to pay eBay in commission is based on the final value of the auction without P&P taken into account.

Another tip is to pay by a method that's easy to pull back - credit card or even PayPal over cash (unless it's cash on delivery, and you've already verified the goods).

VESA are the Video Electronics Standards Association. A VESA fixing is one that complies to the standard laid down by them, in terms of where the holes for the screws and cables need to be.

I've now spent a couple of days checking out some of the links. I'm more confused than before. Some are saying I need a VESA adaptor and other don't say.

Does anyone have a wall-mounted TV and how did you go about fixing it?

I've fitted several of these at work, some of them whoppers. Most brackets are universal, although I have come across the odd one made in America with Unified threads. I would think your best bet would be to go to Comet or a similar store. I'm not sure where we get ours from, I'll ask the question later.

I'd appreciate that, walsworth.

Colin, I got the builder to put the electric sockets and aerial point halfway up the wall so that they'd be behind the TV set. Alternatively, if I decide to go for a stand, the plugs and wires should be behind the top edge of the TV.

I went down to Comet and Currys this morning. The staff at Currys had no idea what I was talking about and they'd never heard of VESA. The young woman at Comet was generally quite knowledgable and helpful but insisted the mounting couldn't be fixed to gyproc as it couldn't support a 19kg TV. I find this hard to believe as I'm sure you can get special wall plugs for heavy loads. I have shelving in a cupboard which I fitted with ordinary rawlplugs and the shelves hold loads of food tins and bottles as well as other odds and ends of crockery etc. Also, aren't kitchen wall units fitted with rawlplugs?

I'm wondering if that might be an option, Gareth. I was supposed to be going to Ikea this evening to check these things out but the stuff doesn't look like it will match the traditional/classical design and decor of the extension. Anyway, Mrs O has has phoned to put paid to the plan. She has an alternative engagement this evening.

I didn't get chance today to ask where our brackets from but I'll try again tomorrow. As long as you get Plasterboard expanding bolts to fix it there'll be no problem, we have even fixed them using those awful worm type fixings that you screw into the plasterboard first and then fit the bracket with an ordinary woodscrew. 6 or 8 fasteners would be ample.
