I'm thinking of buying a new plasma or LCD TV to go on the wall in the new extension I've had built.

When I was designing the extension, Mrs O asked why I'd specified two double sockets in the area intended for the TV. I explained we'd need a socket for the TV, one for the DVD player and one for the video player.

She said she didn't like the idea of having all those machines in the room, and certainly not on the expensive piece of furniture destined for underneath the telly. "I want the TV to have all those things incorporated," she insisted.

My question is, do TVs have them incorporated? (I didn't think so but didn't see the point of starting an argument when I wasn't in possession of the facts.)

There was one advertised on tv recently (LG I think) with an integrated hard drive for recording. In the past I've seen ones with integrated dvd player. Can't say I've seen one with both. I'm holding back on buying one as, from what I hear, if you buy an hd tv with an integrated digital tuner then it can't show freeview hd programmes in hd (similar to a sky box digital tuner can't handle hd i.e. you need a sky hd box). In other words, when the network's awash with hd programmes you'll need to buy an hd set-top box to be able to watch them on your hd tv.

What you really need is for a cupboard to be behiind the wall so you can knock a hole through to it and stick all the attachments in there.

I wouldn't buy an 'all in one', although I believe you will get a lcd with a built in dvd player (make sure if has built in freeview too)

Remember though, you get a fault on the dvd player and it has to be returned for repair, you have to return the tv, which means a big space on your wall for a couple of weeks!

That was something that occurred to me yesterday. There's a space in the room through the wall for the machines although the obvious flaw is that it would preclude the use of a remote control!
