Now that 24, Desperate Housewives and Heroes have come to an end I'm finding I'm left with very little to watch. In fact the only 2 things I watch regularly are Dexter (which is now halfway through the series) and South Pacific (which is excellent, by the way, if you haven't seen it). I've even gone off Springwatch this year as that new bloke just can't compare to Bill! Has anyone got any recommendations for anything else I can waste a few hours watching?

"The Wire" will be back in a couple of weeks, I think. There's also Tim Roth in "Lie to Me" which, rather like "The Mentalist" is about that latest fashion in policing - looking at facial tics and body language to determine which suspect's uncomfortable, which is lying, etc. Both are pretty good, if rather incredible.

I'm quite happy that Chris Packham's replacing Oddie, since the latter forever talked over Kate Humble and kept having to assert himself in a slightly grumpy way. To me, he's the John McCririck of wildlife programmes! Is he unwell?

You can pick up the complete series of The West Wing at a reasonable price these days.

I sometimes find myself sticking on an episode if I've some time to kill. It's a brilliant series. Classy TV.

Read a book instead?

I do read quite a lot but sometimes it nice to have a TV series to follow. Kri's recommendation of 'Lie To Me' sounds interesting, anyone know what channel it's on?

The West Wing is another I keep meaning to give a go, I think I might hop on over to Amazon to get the first series.

I know you read quite a bit, it was just an idea - I don't watch a lot of TV at all nowadays and tend to read instead. Often when the TV is on it's for background noise only and I still carry on with the book!

Watched Casualty 1909 last night - only took them 15 minutes to mention "seamstress" in relation to a prostitute. Quite good for the BBC.

Also watched Veronica Guerin - great film and such a corageous woman, can't believe there were places as late as the early 1990's which were like the estates they depicted in Dublin :(

I have a friend visiting and politely endured Emmerdale, followed by Corrie, and a re-run of a load of platitudinous 'issues' with Sheila Hancock in it. I'd avoided it first time round, but let the guest have her way. The series, if that's what it is, is called 'Moving On' and I wished it had. To Alpha Centauri.

Anyone like myself with an empty social diary on a Friday night could do worse than switch on Leonard Cohen on BBC4 at the moment. I like his music to start with but the live concert is better than recordings.

Dexter continues to amuse, and The Wire will be back next week, thank God. One of the black actors, Clarke Peters, who plays Det. Freamon, lives in London, and will soon be seen in Holby City!

I flicked onto Eastenders Tonight and thought I was on some Indian channel some women singing in Indian as the others all sat round, what's going on there I had to reach for my knob, and off it went.

Chuck is vey light viewing but very very good, you really need to watch from season 1 though to understand it properly

Big Bang Theory is, in my view, one of the funniest comedy's for years.
