Here are my bets for the UK's all-weather races today. Initial selections are from the Lingfield meeting. There may be more to follow later.
Note, the point of writing up these selections is always to illustrate which horses are carrying my personal bets. And those bets are always derived/determined from the processes outlined in the book: UK All-Weather Racing: A Specialist's Guide to Finding Value on
Southwell 16:55 - Lord Capulet is a 4 year old gelding. He’s a distance winner and looks to be progressive having won his last 3 races. All 3 of those wins were at Newcastle over 7F in a class 6. Today, he’s running over the same distance. However, he’s upped in class and running at Southwell for the first time
Kevin Ryan’s yard is in form having had 3 winners from 9 runners in the past 14 days. He’s ridden by Jack Callan who’s a 5lbs claimer. He has a very good record at Southwell having won 6/26 rides for a 23% win strike rate and a 46% place rate.
Lord Capulet WIN bet @ 3.0
Lingfield 13:00 - Damascus Steel is a 6 years old gelding who’s a course and distance winner. His very much inform having finished first and second in his last two races. LTO he finished a good second in a strong looking race at Wolverhampton 29 days ago. He’s been raised 1 lbs for that performance but he’s dropping in class.
His trainer Denis Quinn’s yard is in fine form with 2 wins from 5 runners in the past 14 days. William Carson rides him again and he’s 1 from 2 on the gelding.
His highest winner handicap mark is 75 and he runs off 73. His last winning mark was 70 so he’s quite well handicapped.
It’s a tricky race but I believe it’s one he can win. I’ve took the each way at the price.
Damascus Steel EW @ 8.0
Southwell 19:00 - Saytarr is a progressive 4 year old gelding by Mehmas. He’s a distance winner over a mile and he’s a course winner over 7F. His AW record is quite impressive with form figures of 321161
He’s been raised 4lbs for his LTO win. His highest win rating is 72 and today he’s off 76 and he’s up in class. That win was 29 days ago having had a break for 4 months. It was his best run to date which shows he’s still progressing.
Saytarr WIN @ 4.5
Southwell 20:00 - Seraphic is a 6 years old in form gelding by Dubawi. His speed figures and RaceIQ metrics indicate that he’s progressed in his last 3 runs.
LTO he finished 2nd over C&D losing to Enthused by 2.25 lengths. I believe that Enthused is a well handicapped horse. That performance is a stand out performance in this field. His finishing speed percentage was 105.97 in a faster than par race.
I believe he has every chance of winning this but the price means he can be an EW play.
Seraphic EW @ 8.5
