The following is an internal memo from the head of programmes of Chrysalis Radio:

"On Monday 17th January a single radio station called "UK RADIO AID" will start broadcasting.

For the first time, EVERY commercial radio station in the UK will stop their normal output and take UK Radio Aid for 12 hours.

We will be asking people to give an hour of their lives to the Children of the Tsunami disaster.

In conjunction with all the major Childrens Charities, and DEC/UNICEF Commercial Radio will broadcast 12 hours of fundraising (6am-6pm) and ask our audiences, clients, and staff to help save lives and give children some hope for the future.

Stations will all be asked to think how new or existing ideas can be made to work for this initiative so everyone can take part, feel involved, and hopefully make a difference.

The radio board have put the weight of Chrysalis behind this to combine with the CRCA, RAB, Capital, GWR, EMAP, Virgin, GMG, Unique, Scottish, and many other smaller radio groups.

With the help of everyone this will be a very exciting day for commercial radio, a great broadcast, and hopefully a huge fundraising effort for the Children of the Tsunami.

Pete Simmons, Group Head of Programmes, Chrysalis Radio"

I imagine that the music will be a bit bland for many on here, but after all it's in a good cause.

I can confirm that presenters will include Chris Tarrant, Chris Evans, Johnny Vaughan, Jono & Harriett and Nick Ferrari. The playlist is being programmed by Paul Jackson (son of the legendary Richard Park - and Programme Director of Virgin Radio).
