Under The Radar

Every now and again I like a stab at a real longshot and I think I've found one in the Britannia.

The poor sod in question is Le Deluge. He flopped last time, his first run in this country, at Thirsk in an ordinary race. Before that, he'd run on the AW at Chantilly, earning an RPR of 96 and an OR of 90. He's since been dropped 3lbs (for the Thirsk run) and RPRs have downgraded the Chantilly race by 5lbs.

But what if the original figures were right? What if he needed the Thirsk race after two months off. Why are they going straight for this race?

I reckon there will be worse bets at much shorter odds this week so I've taken 250 at Betfair to small stakes and the 25/1 place-only.

But Wentworth is a good thing. If the draw doesn't beat him, nothing else will.

So the draw beat Wentworth after all but I heard Simon Holt mentioning Le Deluge going on well at the end.

I have a few 'under the radar' today although I suppose most of my bets are UTR to some extent...

The main one - more to follow once the money is on - is Purr Along in the Coronation.

She was only a head behind Certify in the May Hill – the pair eight lengths clear – and she was 3/1 second favourite for the Critérium des Pouliches but got no run. She wasn’t rushed into the Guineas and has had time to come to herself. The 33/1 looks proper value and an ew trixie with two other UTRs (to follow) appeals.

The other two UTRs I'm on today are Heart Focus (25/1) and Tha'ir (16/1).

Heart Focus has two lengths to find with Sandiva but what doesn't? I reckon she has as good a chance as anything above her in the market so why the big price? If the favourite runs a shade off form it's wide open.

Tha'ir was on 108 before his seasonal debut. He's been dropped 8lbs for being beaten a head but is bred to be much more suited to this trip and Godolphin horses have been showing vastly improved form this week without winning. It might be the same here but that 108 OR is better than everything else bar the favourite and he might bounce, in which case it's game on.

Each-way doubles and trebles with Purr Along.

Good luck DO - been looking at Tha'ir myself given Bin Suroors have been running creditably this week. I'll leave it alone to give you a fighting chance!

Just looking at Boite in the 5 o clock, I can't believe it beat Remote by 7 lengths in it's maiden in May and yet is 66-1 here. Chappel Hyam had a good looking winner last night too so wonder if stable might be hitting form...

3rd, good shout!
