Could we swap them on this forum perhaps or should I just take a trip to my local charity shop. If we can't do a swapshop on here does anyone know of a good cause I could donate them to?

I am not ungrateful (and hope I don't sound as if I am)but I have received (and so has my partner) a few gifts that are probably not for us. Is it possible that we list a few on here and then send them to people that could make use of them for instance.

I don't want to sell them on Ebay - as I don't want to make money out of them I just want them to go to people that could make use of them.

Any ideas, folks?

Contact your local St Vincent de Paul Society, Kathy. I'm sure they could find someone in serious need of them.

Kathy, they're based in the Catholic church but offer help to all denominations in need. I'm sure if you contact your nearest Catholic church the local priest will be able to point you in the right direction.

Just take them down to whichever of your local charity shops most appeals to you

Or offer them via your local Freecycle group, these match up people who need things with people who want to give them away - brill!

Are there many St Vincent de Paul societies in England? I'm not so sure there are, I'm pretty sure they're more common in Scotland and certainly Ireland.

Of course any charity shop is always a good idea as per HS's suggestion - Macmillan or Cancer Research is always a good place to start for me.

Certainly every parish I've belonged to has had a SSVDP and the parishes in USA to which my extended family belong have all had one. I just presumed every Catholic parish everywhere in the English speaking world had one.

They are very common in Australia, St Vincent's De Paul.

Its also not a bad place to look around, because they always resell the stuff that has been given to them.

I've rarely seen one DO - in fact once, I believe, although I can't remember where it was! (I've a feeling it was Liverpool which would sound about right as Catholicism is quite popular there). I'm guessing that as Catholicism isn't anywhere near as popular in most of England as it is in Scotland or Ireland (for example) that may be why they don't seem to be around a lot?
