Can anyone give me a quick idiot-proof guide?

I've got the phone and the PC connected and the PC has recognised the hardware but the drive doesn't appear in 'My Computer'.

My phone is a Samsung.

Can sometimes be something very simple like the phone is connected to the PC too early. Try connect the phone to the PC and then switch the phone on and see if it recognises it that way

No joy yet.

I noticed there was a CD in the box and tried loading that but the PC is saying 'no disk in the drive'.

At work when uploading photos from the school's digital camera I just plug the cable into the usb port and it all works fine. No need for CDs or anything. I presumed it would be the same at home.

I've done a bit of fiddling around and pressed a few buttons. I'm now getting the message 'connected to PC' on my phone.

Trying to figure out where I go from here...

Open 'My Computer' and have a look at all the disk drives listed. There will probably be a c:\ drive (hard disk) and a DVD drive d:\ or e:\ is there an new one called a removable drive (possibly f:\ or l:\ or something?)

Yes, it's showing the code for my mobile phone where it would normally indicate when I was using a pen drive but it isn't lettered as such.

I see the Samsung PC Studio programme is already on the PC. Presumably my wife did that for her own phone. When I opened it it started downloading tons of updates. 342 to be precise. That's taking quite a while.

The updates loaded and I managed to view my photos on my PC.

Now I need to work out how to save them on my PC.

I clicked on 'file' as per normal but didn't get any 'save as' option.

If its the same as mine,
Samsung PC Studio -
Manage files -
Phone Explorer - there is a box on the left "Phone" Find which file in your phone has the photos click on that and a list of files will appear in the big box. "Right click" on the file name and it says something like dowload to PC and then will bring up the browse page so you can choose where to place them on your PC.

Nope. The only options are Open, Cut, Copy and Delete.

Hang on... the photos in that file aren't mine. The file must already be in the PC. So I still haven't downloaded the photos yet.
