I've just heard that Warwick are making moves to scrap flat fixtures and become a jumps only racecourse. Did this make the press at home?

It can only be a financial decision, which raises a concern, but I for one would welcome more jumps meetings at Warwick. It's always been a proper test. I also hope they bring back what was there traditional end of season meeting which they switched to a flat fixture. The end of season 2 mile chase always attracted serious quality horses.

I also assume they'll be bidding from some summer jumps meetings. And as a slight aside, if I were there them I'd be doing everything I could to promote a summer jumps championship culminating in a finale at Warwick.

It's also of personal interest because I'm considering heading back home from my 5 year sabbatical and Warwick would be my local.

It was in the news last week - they had issues with the bend when one of George Margarson's slipped up and was fatally injured there a couple of months ago and don't think they've used the flat course since.

Sadly they have seemingly abolished the only four year old chase that we have/had in the UK - went a few years ago and saw Chapoturgeon, Songe and Araldur line up in a three or four horse field.

No Luke.
he won his first chase as a 6 year old.
His first Warwick win came Jan 1994 from Egypt Mill Prince weeks before his first Champion Chase. Looking at his race record on Racing Post site he had 16 or so flat runs and no win before falling in his first hurdle race. Amazing reading when you consider what he did after.

That Viking Flagship Warwick win was a re routed Victor Chandler Chase. I believe that was the first time something had been relocated and added to an existing card so quickly so it took place on its intended date.

As an aside, that was also the day Dunwoody and Maguire went beserk whipping up the run in Ramstar and Castle Diamond. 25 odd hits each, if i recall correctly.

Sadly, i expect the majority of Warwicks will comprise of 0-125s, got to have 8 runnera and all that crap. Its crying out for a conditions chase every fortnight, ala the Wincanton of old, but they wont have the bollocks for it
