The end of April and precious little stirring for me, flat-wise but having tiny tweaks of interest with a thought to builsinga 'to follow' list before I get anywhere near involved.

Today I've found three who are of a little interest, of which two are on the flat.
The first will have to be:

Witch Hunter - Ascot 1.40 10/1 Ew

When I saw this one come home nicely into nd place behind Charyn at Royal Ascot last, I had him marked down to be of definite interest. It's fair to say that the results since have been somewhat underwhelming yet the handicapper is not for budging, with Witch Hunter on the same 109 mark even after nine unsuccessful attempts. Today, again, he's on 109 but they try adding pieces. Although he's won mostly over 7f, I think the mile suits ok. After all, that second to Charyn was a quick time and he stayed on.

I think that this form is still the thing and I'm hoping the pieces will do the trick. Anyway, 10/1 looks too big to me
My next is just a nibble, really.:

Immelmann - 8.40 Southwell 9/1 Ew

Followed this a little when trained by Mullins last year and I thought there was definitely something of interest to follow. He's subsequently changed stables and first-time -out is sometimes a good time to catch them.

Lastly:

Thanksforthehelp - Punchestown 2.30 14/1 Ew

I have one of my 'list' horses running here in American Sniper. Looking at it, though, I thought that the trip is too short, really. Then I noticed that Pipe has another in, down the weights. I find t intriguing that Pipey has the top weight and this. I've taken the hint.

Ew Patent

Let's see how these do.

Good luck. :)

Wasn't Thanksforthehelp one of the favourites for the Pertemps Hurdle Final in 2023? I feel you need a large slice of luck backing one of JP's horses in a race where he has another four running for him. In For The Night is another of them and is trained by Des McDonogh, best known for Monksfield.
Ira Hayes leapt out at me just for the name as I am reading a long biography of Johnny Cash, and one of the songs mentioned in the book was The Ballad of Ira Hayes. The 'original' Ira Hayes is on the left of the picture raising the US flag at Iwo Jima.

fwiw...

"American Sniper is owned by a group of local lads and they love going to Punchestown every year anyway so to have a runner out there is a dream come true. It will be a fiercely competitive handicap but I would hope both of our horses have small each way chances"

Cheers lads. Truth is, I'm a lucky boy to get the winner based on what was a 'hunch' bet and therefore a stab in the dark. Of course I'll take it. It gave me the chance to cash out for a nice profit and then put a single Ew on Immelmann. Profit's the main thing, eh?

A winner is a winner however you find it. Hunches are often worth following.

Well done.
