Well, that was York that was.

I had an awful lot of trackers, but with bitter experience from a lot of big meetings I only had five bets. It should have been six , but Arecibo drifted like a barge so I left him alone. Poor old Primo Bacio lost the ground - without the £15,000 supplement she’d have been withdrawn along with Ed Walker’s other runner - so I should have left her, too, but took a chance. Real World won which was a relief, but didn’t do much ease the pain at evens. A couple of the trackers did win without me - Sam Cooke, Valley Forge and Migration. They weren’t first order, though, and I didn’t have the confidence to back everything.

So far as the racing was concerned it was a really good meeting. Some super performances and one - Stradivarius and Spanish Mission - that is burnt in the memory forever. The form was all tops turvy, though, and a lot of top horses failed to give their running. Can only assume early season exertions have taken their toll. Anyway, if I think I’m disappointed I should think about poor William Haggas who loves and targets York. He took a huge string this time, but returns empty handed.
