NEXT month's Welsh Champion Hurdle at Ffos Las will be run at an increased distance of 2m4f and for more money.

Oscar Whisky, owned by Ffos Las founder and chairman Dai Walters, and almost unbeatable at 2m4f is an intended runner

You don't say

Reminds me of a tale of a Macau mafia boss owning a horse out there that needed 6f but there were no 6f races at the time. Miraculously, one appeared in the programme book and there was a strong low draw bias at the track. He was drawn in stall one for the race and apparently p!ssed in.

Speaking of Champion Hurdle trials, NJH made no mention of Haydock as he discussed the 'problem' of finding races for his CH hopefuls.

I well remember Dato Star scooting-up in the race years back, but it has generally been the 'Fredo Corleone' of the recognised CH trials for as long as I can remember.

OK, the ground can get testing there, but are there any other reasons why the race seems to be routinely avoided by the top-end horses/yards?

I was wondering about that yesterday too. Might it be because it clashes with the Victor Chandler meeting at Ascot and their main jockeys are in action there. Other than that I couldn't think of a reason.

Hasn't there been some debate about recent changes to the track making the ground far less testing than it used to be?
