warrabout Lizzy @ 3pm??

I have never watched/listened to the old biddy on Christmas Day. Never intend to either.

The TV's in a different room anyway so it's well past her air-time before we start settling down. No room for more than two on the couch after what we've eaten.

Nuts/crisps/olives from early (always promise myself not to, but always do)
Champagne
Prawn and Avacado Salad
Sancerre
Turkey, Ham, Stuffing, Bread Sauce, M&S microwave veg (red cabbage and mixed veg - saves cleaning pots), Asparagus, roast and mashed potatoes.
Some Languedoc wine I got a case of but haven't tried yet.
Trifle (optional, probable)
Pudding (optional, possible)
Cake (optional, doubtful)
Coffee and Chocolates (Torc truffles, made in Longford, the best chocolates I have come across on sale in Ireland - worth a try if you see them)
Nuts/crisps/olives again
Malibu and Tropicana orange juice (a new favourite - probably be sick of it by St Stephens Day)
Brown Bread (God bless her, the wife makes it fresh on Christmas morning) and Smoked Salmon.
------------------------------
My total contribution to food preparation...
Uncork the wine.
Make the Prawn Cocktail sauce(might shell the prawns too).
Microwave the vegetables.
Make the coffee.

I suggest you try a bottle of that Languedoc wine before the day - just for research purposes of course

Melendez,

Could I come to Christmas Dinner at yours please? I can't cook but I am great at sampling wine, working the TV remote control, and washing up! :D (not necessarily in that order!)

My Mum's Christmas dinner is fantastic....roast turkey with all the trimming, sausages in bacon, roast spuds & parsnips & all teh rest of the guff that goes with it.....but thebest bit is the homemade sausagemeat, chestnut & cranberry stuffing which is amazing, not least because I'm making it this year & I'm damn good at making it! :D Oh, & there will be copius amounts of vino, vodka, port & champagne too, naturally! :D

Maurice that is just the first course in the Swirly household! you must be hungry next day.

Whatever turd Simmo's Girlfriends Mum serves up. Unless simmo can persuade his girlfriend that supplying a basketful of M&S goodies is a fantastic idea. She'll probably still knacker them.

I am the guy who cooks the Sunday roast at home so I'll be in the kitchen a lot of the time. Also, our youngest child is only six and he's a bit of a sweetie really so we'll be spending a fair bit of time with his pressies and playing games and stuff, before and after mass. Usually I'm knackered after all that and fall asleep.

As for what we eat. I dunno yet. I'm a bit fed up with turkey for Christmas so will either get a small one or get a chicken instead and do a big ham too. I like Delia roast potatoes and loads of other veg. Champagne then some sort of red wine, dunno what yet.

Gotta have Christmas pudding.

It's just a manic sort of day really but good fun.

A hearty starter of limaces a la jardin, followed by roast badger with nettle stuffing, and assorted dishes of baked, fried and smoked roadkill. Can't wait!

Dom, remind me to cook you my delicious hedgehog-en-croute next time you're over! Mm-mm, finger-lickin' gooood! :D

I have the pleasure of hosting a small gathering this year............ well Relkeel is coming over because Mrs Relkeel has this year abandoned him in favour of the valleys.

I haven't finalised the menu yet, but it will certainly contain 1 dish from each of these 3 courses.

Nut crusted goats' cheese salad, roasted beetroot.
Salad Nicoise, free range egg.
Ballotine of smoked ham hock, grated ducks' egg, shallot rings, caper and green peppercorn vinaigrette.
Some salted peanuts.
-------------------------
Chargrilled poussin with garlic mash.
Pan fried fillet of sea bass with creamed spinach and smoked eel, celeriac purée, asparagus tips and red wine fumet.
Marinated leg of Landes rabbit with pan fried herb ravioli, crushed peas and fèves, hazelnut and tarragon jus.
Traditional Toasted Cheese & Ham Sandwich.
--------------------------
Rum and raisin panna cotta.
Christmas Pudding with brandy cream and egg custard.
Some chocolate buttons and remains of a chocolate Santa.

Unless you swallowed one of Delia's books recently......1/33 that the last-named selection of each course will be on the menu.
