They want to run the main race each day as race 5 at 4pm rather than as race 4 at 3:30 in a bid to build up excitement through the afternoon. Doesn't bother me as I'm watching it at home.
I checked whether my memory of around thirty years ago was playing tricks, and it wasn't. In the mid 1990s Tuesday's card had the Ritz NH Handicap Chase and the Fulke Walwyn Kim Muir Handicap Chase as consecutive races.
