What Would You Do If You Got Mild Food Poisoning

Would you say something or just never go back? Who would you tell? Would you write/phone or pop in?

I am tempted to say nothing but as both my partner and I suffered it was clearly what we had eaten and I don't want the same to happen to someone else. We both had different fish dishes but shared.

Any advice gratefully received.

I'd give them a ring. The instant they mention that thy had no other complaints about that night, or ask you what else you might have eaten that day outside of the restaurant, put the phone down, you're getting nowhere.

You will probably be offered a free meal on the house, which you couldn't dream of taking. Look for a total refund. If you get that and they do seem to be taking responsibility, I would have no particular hesitation in going back. Accidents do happen from time to time. A kitchen is not a sterile environment.

I would go in and see them, ask to speak to the manager, tell him what has happened, and ask him to show you the kitchens. No warning. If he is kosher, he will be grateful.

Depending on the reaction you get, and the state of the kitchens, I'd either give him a big fright, or go straight to the Environmental Health Officer at the local council who would be responsible for making him clean up his act. In this case as it's fish, it might not be the restaurant's fault - they might have been sold some dodgy fish - or it might be that they need some training in keeping fish.

I certainly wouldn't just leave it. The kitchens might be a real health hazard; and serving out-of-date seafood is really dangerous. At worst it can kill; it can also leave people with eg a shellfish allergy for many years

I'd report them to food control. About 2 years ago I had a severe case of food poisioning, from a well known Thai food outlet (with a good reputation here in Sydney). People at work rushed me to the local emergency medical facility we have in the city, and I had to be on steroids the next 3 weeks.

I have stopped eating Thai food and will never eat it again, because of this experience. And I have heard through the grapevine, that the place has had similar incidents since then, and is now I believe black listed.

I wish, at the time I had of reported them.

I called a restaurant 5 years ago after some bad gammon poisoned me, they couldn't have cared less and insisted it wasn't them so I called the EHO

I just phoned the Pub/Restaurant and spoke to the deputy manager as the manager is on her day off today. I told her what I had eaten and what had happened and she sounded absolutely mortified. She didn't ask for my name or phone number but promised she would deal with it immediately and thanked me for letting her know.

I suppose that's all I can hope for really. I just didn't want anyone else to go through what I did as it wasn't very pleasant. That said, I have had "proper" food poisoning before which was alot worse than what I experienced on Saturday night/Sunday morning.

I have to admit it has put me off eating at this place again which is a shame as it is very close by. I will warm a few people I know who eat here and hopefuly the management will take my complaint seriously. She certainly sounded genuinly upset.

Thanks for your advice everyone.
