I think the number of races a novice needs to have run in could perhaps do with exceptions - so a horse that can jump and has shown their hand like Joyeuse could run at the Festival. So perhaps if they have already run in a premier handicap like the William Hill Hurdle, the Greatwood or the Ladbroke they could run.
