I always understood that it was unlucky to take them down either before or after the 6th. Lots still up on my road including my tree but some have come down ( largely in the houses where they were up in November ! )

When do your decorations come down ?

As close to the 6th. as is convenient.

My mam, bless her cotton socks, was very superstitious, I put it down to her Irish blood :D , and she would always take them down on the 6th (12th. day of Christmas, isn't it).

On the 6th or as soon after as convenient. Never before, but it's not down to superstition. We were told when we were young the tree & decorations should go up for the "twelve days" (even though it's more than twelve) but for the sake of convenience we always put our tree etc up on or just before Christmas Eve. Latterly they were put up a week or so early but I like to put mine up quite early (usually during the Massey-Ferguson meeting). They always came down on the 6th (Epiphany/Feast of the Kings) but if we're busy I don't mind leaving it for a day or two.

I hate it when the stuff all comes down. It's like a wake.

I just have cards up but you mustn't take anything down before the 6th. Extremely bad luck. Along with washing on New Year's day as my Mum used to say.

Well, having abided by such superstitions in the past, this year I am putting two fingers up to 'em!!

My decs went up two weeks ago and I've had enough of them, so they'll be coming down this evening!

Don't expect to hear any more pearls of wisdom from me again...... <_<

yesterday mornin. whilst i was in bed... feckers woke me up doing it as well!!! the cheek of some people!!!!

I've a good mind to dismantle mine's this evening.

Actually, on second thoughts, I think I'll leave them up until the 6th. I am going out that night and the missus will have it done by the time I stagger home. That sounds like a much better idea.

Don't have any to take down! Went to a very cold, antarctic country for Christmas & froze instead.

I do have a lot of Christmassy smelling candles but I have them at any time of the year anyway as I love the smell. I did toy with the idea of buying a poinsettia but I know it would have done well to have lasted until January 1st, nevermind the 6th, under my care.

Am contemplating taking the tree down tomorrow. It's the only decoration we've got. Will shove it in the car and take it to the tip. I still haven't cleared up the pine needles from the car from it's journey home, so a bit more mess wouldn't make a difference

I have to admit, I stop feeling "Christmassy" straight after New Year, so down came all the decorations and the tree on the 1st January!

Leave them up all year like some indian families do with their decorations, it saves time the following year and the parrots love them..... try it, you know it makes sense.  :o

Over several days. The stuff is all kept in the spare room the rest of the year, so everytime we go upstairs we try and take one item and chuck it on the bed, where it usually stays until about Easter :shy: when we pack it away.

Couldn't be bothered to decorate just for me, just a wreath on the door and the lovely cards - down this evening. That's another plague of boils, I suppose...
