So, Id watched Monks Mead for each of his three maidens at the time of those races. Clearly no chance, and for each one Mark Usher had been saying pre-race ' you won't see anything till he gets in a nursery'.
Looked at the race today, at first glance thinking 'this is weak'
I then spotted a Zoustar I'd been waiting for (Rockinthefreeworld), then remembered Willie Knight thought his one has something, a Balding runner that could have been anything, a Middleham Park runner that they rate, and even an Adam West youngster (a few of his younger ones have been going nicely recently).
In the resultant thoughts of 'hmm, this might not be as weak as it looks' I went for the Zoustar at around 26 for fun.
For some reason, the brain packed in and didn't even look at the trading prices for MM.
Even, somehow, I ignored the semi-bullish (or 'between the lines' medium hopeful) pre-race news from MU, relaying they'd sought out with some effort a claimer who's been pulling up trees for Rod Millman to ride and to offset the out of the handicap pounds.
Half a furlong out, the favourites got him, and the relief is palpable. And in the space of 2-3 seconds, it's all over with MM somehow fighting to get a head in front at the line.
A heart-sinking glance at the bsp shows mid 400s. I'll guess he was probably trading mid 300s, perhaps a bit less, maybe a bit more.
You have to be philosophical, but that'll hurt for some time :-( (Still smiling but through gritted teeth is probably the appropriate terminology)
But it does illustrate something that's yet another personal lesson - sometimes you can have too much 'info' and overthink it. And sometimes, too much info can work against you even when the stars are telling you 'this will be a silly miss'.
