Where are all the staying chasers?

Is there a reduction in the number of good staying chasers in training, or are they all being kept back until the National weights are out? The last two weekends have seen the cancellation of the Peter Marsh and the Skybet Chase, and yet two chases tomorrow with eighty thousand pounds in prizemoney between them can only muster four runners rated above 138.

Junior, Cannington Brook and Carruthers go at Ffos Las while at Sandown, Roberto Goldback is rated nineteen pounds above the next in the weights.

Chances are if racing can't take place then lots of stables also come to a standstill leaving more than a few horses housebound. That could account for a few that might otherwise have run.
