Who Is Your Most Annoying Race Commentator?

Cattermole.

It's verging on a crime against humanity allowing him to course-commentate during the Festival - truly appalling.

Thommo is the best commentator of bad racing by a mile. Nothing brings to life a Southwell claimer like if cry "And he comes the favourite".

Dessie Scahill, can't pronounce their names, calls them wrong, plus he sucks his lips mid commentary.

Quantitativeeasing the first time he ran. Poor Dessie must've never heard of the phrase before & proceeded to pronounce it 9 different ways during the race - all of them wrong.

I agree with this in the main, though I have to say, Dessie's commentaries on some of the Fly's races were tremendous.

John Hunt - the only person I've ever heard use 5 consecutive verys in one sentence.

i like Cattermole and Tommo..Cattermole has a relaxed presentation..Tommo..is just hilarious. Both very good in their own ways. I don't like the scahill guy..just lists horse names with no idea how far any is on the lead or behind the leader..hopeless.

Cattermole misses too much, and is too laid-back to ever adequately convey the drama and excitement of a top-class race, imo.

My first 4-5 years of going to Punchestown; I couldn't stand Dessie but he's grown on me and I think he's a brilliant commentator.....he may get one or two horses in a race wrong, but he gets the other 28 right!

Thommo gets some stick but I reckon he's hard working and puts a lot of effort into it in comparison to Dessie who does absolutely nothing but read out horses names.

You listen to the latter on the radio and you would have no idea if your horse was travelling well or bouncing up and down on the spot...the man is useless.

The only thing that changes in a Thommo commentary are the names of the horses, he uses the same cliched phrases for every race - but he is pretty accurate. Scahill is a waste of space, he calls the names but gives no indication of which horse is which. I don't like Shouty either.

Would agree with much of the above. Thommo is great - accurate and a touch overenthusiastic, just what you want in a commentator.

Dessie is the worst by a mile. Lists the horses over and over, and makes horrific mistakes. Quite often something major happens - the favourite falling for example - and he doesn't mention it until he's finished his list twenty seconds later. Sometimes by the time he's finished his list it's too late and he doesn't bother/forgets. He's called the wrong horse the winner several times. The fact he still has a job tells you there must be a dearth of good callers in Ireland.

Thomson-utter c***

That's a bit harsh
I know he comes across as a bit of a plonker but he also just seems like a bloody nice bloke too
Commentary wise I don't mind him, I find Ian Bartlett's races a bit bland.

The other one I can't stand commentates on the minor tracks and shouts too much.....no idea what his name is though.

If you like a good mispronunciation you need to start tuning into the podcasts created by some twonk who calls himself The Value Rater. All over Twitter.

His rendition of Saphir Du Rheu nearly put me in casualty....

I also loved it when he bombarded social media with calls to tune into his latest audio missive where he was exclusively tipping a 25-1 shot for the Gold Cup.

It turned out it was More of That and Jonjo pulled him out of the race the next day.

He then went on to exclusively tip O'Faolains Boy for the Welsh National.

Next day............Boooooooooooooooooooooom!

It's comedy gold

How Catt gets any gigs is beyond me. Utterly hopeless. Thommo is jut a bumbling clown who day trippers love....but again should never be allowed to commentate.
