Curiousity has got the better of me from the driving thread. People have rightly pointed to the revenue implications, and I wouldn't dispute that. I think there's another sinister by product too, which is all part of the civilian surviellance agenda that western governments are embarking on whether it be through ID cards, Mobile phones emmissions, smart cards etc
But leaving that aside, I recently hired out a box Luton van, and the hire company basically conceeded they used to penalise holders of dirty licences through their terms and conditions, but can't do any longer as over half the hirers had points. Since Blair strated his love affair with speed cameras, how many of us have been done?
I'm prepared to own up to 6 points at the moment, 3 of which come off in the next 6 months.
I should say both occasions annoyed the hell out of me, as these were non 30 mph roads in truth, and had clearly been put there to raise money. They weren't really residential roads either, although a few houses existed that were well set back. I wasn't even in a hurry, and was half lost, and driving quite slowly for the conditions thus (36 mph both occasions). Having said that, I'd have to be the first conceed that I'd got away with it a few times, when I have pushed the envelope, so there's a bit of what goes round comes round etc
