Mrs O has decided a Wii would be the ideal Christmas indulgence for us (instead of buying each other presents).

What I know about Wiis you could write in large font on the back of a stamp. Can anyone offer any advice?

They're pretty straightforward to set up and get started with - anything in particular you're wondering about DO?

I'm wondering about pretty much everything, Gareth!

Are they made by only one company? Do they come in different 'sizes' (like PCs)? I've seen some shops promoting 'Wii Packages' but I presumed everything came with the console?

I'll also check out Tryptich's link, which looks useful. Thanks for that, T.

Mrs O has mentioned Wii Fit (for herself and not me, I presume...). Does that require separate equipment? I've played the tennis game and something else on my niece's Wii but that was a while ago.

What is a Nunchuck?

Yeah, Nintendo make them and they're all the same. The only difference is what bundle you by. I think as standard they come with a copy of Wii Sports, a single controller and a single nunchuck but shops tend to package them up with extra games and/or controllers.

The nunchuck is this yoke:

It plugs into the normal controller, and some games use it for extra control functions. So for example in the boxing game in Wii Sports you hold the normal controller in your right hand and the nunchuck in your left and they control your corresponding on-screen hands.

Wii Fit comes with it's own 'balance board' controller which you stand on to play it - hence why it's more expensive than a normal game. Again, shops tend to be bundling it up with extra games and controllers - a pretty shitty practice in my opinion!
