Reports seem all very positive - I have Vista on my laptop and I am definitely considering upgrading despite the cost. Vista absolutely wrecks my head...

But you often complain about how you can't view certain vids on it, too, Walsy! I've got XP Service Pack 3, and I have no idea what's gone wrong with the bugger. It takes forrrreeevvvveerrrrr to fire up these days, although I've defragged, disk cleaned, crap cleaned and done just about everything to clear out any gunk. And if I ask it to access a link within an e-mail, it then hangs. It only has to do e-mail and Internet, so it's not as if it's spavined from overwork!

Krizon:
You might check that 'Windows Search' (aka indexing) wasn't re-intro-ed in an XP update ... & got included in Start Up....
If so, it's not a matter of off-checking 'allow indexing' on the disk; run msconfig & take it out of start-up.

I found it on my wife's m/c.

I would do a little checking on playing racing replays etc online though, and see if there is an update to this thread I started where Gareth & others posted a lot of helpful stuff

There's good news on that score. The RP has switched to Flash video for both it's replays (from the start of this year, I think) and their live RUK stream, so you don't need to jump through any hoops to watch them on a Mac.

ATR's videos (they use Microsoft's Windows Media format) remain viewable with the help of the free Flip4Mac plugin.

For a second reading the title of the thread thought can't have a follow up series without Avon and Paul Darrow must be getting on a bit now.

Mrussell - WOW! Well, I don't know if it's a one-off, but the pc started fine just now, without the processor grunting like a farrowing sow for 40 minutes! Nothing has hung, and I got straight into e-mail and now the Internet without endless - as in four minute - delays. Thank you VERY much indeed! Please accept this virtual pint and a free betting voucher!

Edit at 4.20 pm, after picking myself up off the floor following ST NICHOLAS ABBEY's streak home... Mrussell, it's not a fluke - the pc hasn't been this fast in many weeks! Dunno quite what it did, but whatever it was, it's back to speeding me quickly from one site, post, e-mail, etc. to the other. Many thanks again - it's saved seeing what a processor looks like when hurled from two floors up!

Still can't believe the diff that one small run made, mrussell - it's even working as it should on links (where it used to hang 7 times out of 10), and skipping around like a kangaroo on caffeine. Thanks so much - you've no idea how incredibly frustrating and annoying it's been!
