I stuck this on a techie thread on boards.ie but got nowhere. Either too lowbrow or people just don't know. Maybe one of the geeks on here will know...
I got the Thomson router and 100mb broadband from UPC last week. The Thomson Wireless adapter was delayed, and it is the adapter that is my problem.
I'm getting all the right wireless speeds, 30mb on ipad, 60mb on a cheap notebook etc, however my most important connection is to my desktop. I had a belkin G plus Mimo wireless adapter which I was using until I got the Thomson 'n' one and was getting 25-30mbps out of it. Almost unbelievably, I have now broken my Belkin adapter. It was a bit dodgy beforehand but from pulling it in and out of the USB ports to do testing it now doesn't register at all. With the Thomson 'n' class wireless adapter I am getting 1mbps out of one USB port, 7mbps out of another and between 10 and 13mbps out of the other 2. Not sure what difference the USB ports should make, but somehow they seem to.
Does anyone have any advice that might help me get nearer the 50 - 70 mbps I was expecting, or at least that would reproduce my Belkin G plus Mimo speeds. Please speak slowly I'm not very good at this.
Also
I have checked and reinstalled the device driver for the adapter, it is the most up to date one and according to the properties it is working correctly. In the properties file the wireless mode is set to 802.11b/g/n. When I set it to 802.11b/g, I get the exact same speeds, so it doesn't seem to appreciate it can run in n mode.
From the router wireless admin page - I've switched is the 2.4Ghz to 5 Ghz and the signal failed, messed around with channels and 11, the default, is best, or as good as any - don't know what anything else does....
Output Power - 100%
802.11 band - 2.4Ghz
802.11 n mode - Auto
Bandwith - 20 Mhz
Control Channel - 11
Current Channel - 11
Regulatory Mode - off
Pre Network Radar Check - 60
In Network Radar Check - 60
TCP Mitigation - 0 Off
OBSS Coexistence - 1 Enabled
PS - I have also turned the desktop on and off, and the modem on and off in various sequences and combinations.
