Whilst some people might have spent this evening working out the relative chances of the 18 horses that will compete in tomorrow's Derby, I decided instead to focus my efforts on the forthcoming World Worm Charming Championships held near Nantwich in Cheshire at the end of this month.

Bet365 have kindly got the market up nice and early, although I haven't been able to find price comparisons so it might be worth holding off until closer to the event?

My full statisitcal analysis can be viewed here: WWCC Analysis

In summary I think Bet365 have got their prices abou spot on, but I feel that there just might be a bit of value in the 1.95 on offer for the heaviest charmed worm to weigh less than 4.6g. Although the unders have only come in 9 times in the 20 years that weights have been recorded and the average heaviest weight is actually a shade over 4.8g there has been a clear trend over the last few championships for lighter worms. In fact the unders has come in 6 times in the last 7 years.

Bet365 are taking no chances in this market - with a quite frankly appaling overround - but the unders @ 1.95 looks about the best bet. However some may wish to just take a watching brief...

The Cheshire/Staffordshire worms are extremely strong and always well forward: they train on the typically very heavy clay soil of the area, building up tremendous stamina for the longer-distance vertical ascents. Research has shown that worms trained on shallower soils, such as the chalky underbeds of the south coast, are spectacularly fast over six inches, but flag once asked to go further than 8. The distance champion in Cheshire was charmed in 1m 15secs over 27.5", having been trained on rough farmland.
