York - Day 4

No full bets yet again, but the pot’s looking quite healthy so it won’t be a red York.

1:50 Alflaila ran a super race second behind Mighty Ulysses in the Henry Cecil and they meet here on the same terms. Although Mighty Ulysses won pretty easily he’s a skinny price now and if he’s there Alflaila won’t be far behind. It’ll be hard going for him to turn the tables, but I’ll take a small 3/1 with money back 2/3.

3:00 I’ll give Sacred another chance. She was squeezed for room when it mattered at Goodwood and had to be switched. Finished strongly but couldn’t reach leaders.

3:35 Reportedly John Leeper has been set up for this all season. Maybe, maybe not. If not then he’s been underperforming, but I will assume this has been the plan and if he performs to his best then I think he has a good chance. Gaassee has been running well and would have at least finished a lot closer last time given a clear run. Small ew for both to 8 (8!!!) places

5:20 the Gosdens have been bringing Special Envoy along quite slowly and I don’t think he will be flogged to death to try and win this. They probably have better things in mind and I might just watch how he goes unless temptation gets the better of me.

It's so hard to tell with JL, isn't it? If they were running him to get his mark down, it hasn't worked,. If they were running him but not really trying, that's a different bucket of blood, as they say..

Ever since his Listed win as a 3yo,people been talking him up yet he he's never delivered, has he? He seems to me to come under the heading of 'disappointing'.

Mind you, I wouldn't put you off as they may have been saving him for this. As you do fancy him, surely you must also fancy Euchlan Glen, who is better off with JL on a couple of running and really is a winner without a penalty since he definitely would have won at Goodwood lto with a clear run (just my luck!).

Yes. Interesting from Dunlop today - “Goodwood was very much a prep race. It was an inadequate trip and they went slowly and quickened. He is a huge horse and we wanted to give him a run in preparation for the Ebor. All systems have been pointed to this for a while. He is a bit of a frustration, but he is still very talented and he is in very good form, and we were pleased with his last piece of work.”

An Enigma, as is the race itself. In truth, I suppose we shouldn't bet in it , Barj, but I can't resist. These days staying races, which are my favourite and specialty, are becoming fewer an fewer, thanks to our beloved, profit-obsessed, quick-turnover bookies.

There's a right gamble on Earl Of Tyrone, isn't there.

Aye, ignore the emerald raiders at your peril

Certainly, shouldn’t open the purse strings too much. I haven’t had a full bet all week.

Nice start, Barj.

3/1 but, as ever, knocked by the rule 4 10p in the £.

When will the racing game tackle the blight of Nr's, eh?

Well done with your first. Let's hope you get a run for your money with John Boy.
